About the Academy for Educational Development (AED)
Founded in 1961, the Academy for Educational Development (AED) is an independent, nonprofit organization committed to solving critical social problems and building the capacity of individuals, communities, and institutions to become more self-sufficient. AED works in all the major areas of human development, with a focus on improving education, health, and economic opportunities for the least advantaged in the United States and developing countries throughout the world.
AED is driven by passion, guided by respect—and focused on results. Relying on disciplined research, time-tested techniques and innovative approaches, AED develops comprehensive programs that empower people to meet their own needs. These range from providing a quality education to all children to improving the health of mothers and infants to equipping governments with the resources needed for effective HIV prevention programs. AED measures success not merely by statistics, but by the result that really matters: Changed lives.
AED employs upwards of 1,900 people worldwide, nearly 1,000 of whom work directly in the field, in the communities being served. Supporting more than 250 social development programs, AED serves people in all 50 U.S. States and more than 150 countries.
