This year’s institute — Leading a Challenging School ¬— is a collaboration between the Center for Creative Leadership and On Point Leadership. Like last year’s program, this institute will take place at the Center for Creative Leadership, in Greensboro, North Carolina. It will be held on March 7-9, 2012.

This Leading a Challenging School institute is a three-day, cohort-based program for principals and assistant principals leading challenging schools, including turnarounds and schools in redesign. The content is based on an extensive research base from the Center for Creative Leadership, Public Impact and Mass Insight, and the activities and learning experiences are designed and informed by the faculty of On Point Leadership.

During three days of activities and sessions, the Leading a Challenging School Institute will focus on how successful leaders (a) set high expectations and build a healthy culture in a challenging environment, (b) use systems thinking to support the development of a healthy school culture and foster innovation, © develop and use influence to drive change and overcome resistance to change, and (d) build and lead high performing teams. Program participants will also be supported to develop stronger coaching skills through group coaching around a challenge in their own schools. Program outcomes include the following:

	•	Develop an understanding of systems thinking and how it supports the need for coherence and alignment in challenging schools
•	Develop an understanding of the need for teams and strategies for leading teams
•	Develop skills and knowledge to understand, lead, process and manage change, and to overcome resistance to change
•	Develop skills to maintain a focus on high expectations and building a healthy school culture

As was the case for last year’s ELDP program, participation in the Leading a Challenging School Institute is without cost to you. However, it does require that you attend during three days when school is in session. We will be leaving to fly to Greensboro after school on Tuesday, March 6th and will return Friday evening, March 9th.

Because we will make group air and hotel reservations, it is important that you confirm your intention to attend the March 7-9 Institute. Please let Laura Dukess know as soon as possible whether you will participate.
