Lucy West is coming to each school site for observations

October 27: 7:45 am – 11:00 — MS 80 12:00 – 3:30 — MS 244

The flow of Lucy West’s visit to the school:

  • Meet with administrators and coaches to set the tone of the visit—exploratory, looking for what is working, looking to build on strength (understand their perspective, goals and needs) (30-45 minutes). Note: this should not be a time to meet with teachers.
  • Ideally, we will meet with each teacher we are going to visit for 15 minutes to get a handle on their view, what they are working on and why, what they perceive to be working and what they want us to observe or attend to (30-45 minutes—this could also be spread throughout if the scheduling is easier on the school as the teachers will likely need 15 minutes of coverage). While this may be difficult, it is important to try to work out since it is respectful of the teachers and gives them some voice and assurance that we are there to assist not evaluate.
  • We visit a class for about 20 minutes or so and then talk for a few minutes with the teacher if possible (about 10 minutes)—this could be done right after the visit, or later toward the end of our visit at that school (it is probably easier to do so right after the visit. A roving substitute may be needed to do these short 15 minute coverages).
  • We visit a second class and talk with the teacher
  • Time permiting we visit a third class and talk with the teacher
  • We convene as a group with the admin. and coaches and share our perceptions.
